Troy senior starting pitcher Lucas Brown was named Sun Belt Conference’s Pitcher of Week after his performance in his outing against South Alabama on Saturday.
Brown pitched eight innings, allowing two runs, none of which were earned. He allowed four hits and struck out eight batters against the No. 23 Jaguars, in what was his final start at Riddle-Pace Field, a game the Trojans won 4-2
“It feels great to win this award knowing that it was my last start at home,” Brown said. “You always want to finish with your best outing, especially at home.”
Brown’s performance on Saturday was sandwiched in between an 8-3 loss in game one and a series clinching win on Sunday 8-0.
Brown’s outing helped the Trojans secure the fourth seed in the upcoming Sun Belt Conference Tournament. Brown hopes that his success and confidence will carry over into his performance in the tournament.
“I just need to keep working hard throughout the week and not take any days off,” Brown said. “I need to try and be consistent and have a quality start.”
Brown is currently 9-4 on the season and is 14-7 overall during his time as a Trojan. Brown has been through some exciting times as a member of The Trojans, but the pitcher of the year awards ranks near the top of the list.
“It definitely ranks near the top,” Brown said. “Every pitcher goes out on the mound each week and strives to be their best. So this accomplishment is not easy. I was at my best and I think I had a little more motivation knowing that it would be my last time pitching at Riddle-Pace.”
