After a break for the Fourth of July, the Troy AAA will turn its sites towards the upcoming state tournament.
“We got through with the (district) championship, and we have been letting the boys have a good time,” said AAA head coach Kevin Adams. “We are going to take time of for the Fourth and get back at it on Tuesday.”
Troy made it through the District 9 tournament with relative ease. They defeated their opponents by scores of 16-7, 16-1 and 20-1, and the offense lived up to the hype.
“All these kids are coming together as a team,” Adams said. “That was our goal from the very beginning. I feel like they think can take on anybody right now.”
But Adams said the competition will increase as the team heads to state.
“It’s not going to be gravy all the way through state,” Adams said. “Our first game is going to be against District 3, and they play good baseball. We are going to have a good battle in the first game, and we will be going up against some good teams throughout the tournament.”
To prepare, Adams has the team working advanced drills and game situations during practices.
“We wanted to work on situations,” Adams said. “We want the kids to be ready for the different things that they are going to see at state. They have to play up to another level when they get up there. We just have to get them ready for it.”
Mastering situations such as those could make the difference in a ball game and the coaching staff has made that clear to their players.
The Troy AAA team will head to the state tournament on July 16 in Enterprise. Opening ceremonies for the tournament will be on July 15.
