The Troy Machine Pitch Rookies picked up a 14-4 win over Muscle Shoals on Thursday in the opening round of the AA Machine Pitch Rookie State Tournament in Oxford.
The game lasted just four innings and head coach Bobby Templin was happy to see the offense come around.
“It’s always good to get the first win under your belt,” Templin said. “It helps the guys know that we can play here. It was great to get it behind us.”
Thursday’s game included a seven-run second inning for Troy.
“We hit the ball as well as we have since we started practice,” Templin said. “It was exciting to see. We hit the ball with authority, and we ran the bases hard and aggressively. Hopefully we can continue that tomorrow night. That has been our issue.”
Troy saw good production throughout the lineup. Troy finished the game with 20 hits in the win. Joshua James Gardiner and Wes Templin each led the way with three hits. Damien Williams, Cole Garrett, Trenton Bryan and CJ Griffin all had two hits.
“The top of our lineup hit the ball really well,” Templain said. “The bottom of the lineup hit it really well … It wasn’t just one part of the lineup.”
The win puts Troy in the winners’ bracket where they will play the winner of Hartselle and Fairhope at 7 p.m. today in Oxford.
