American Legion Post 70 17U team finished day one of the American Legion Alabama Sate Tournament with a 1-1 record.
After battling weather delays and cancellations, the Troy team lost to Bessemer 10-3 then beat Millbrook 6-4.
“It’s been a little hectic with all the rain delays,” said Post 70 head coach Tripp Blackmon. “Overall today we didn’t play our best baseball. In the first game we came out flat.”
Post 70 hit the ball well in game one, but a lack of defense proved costly.
After a tough first inning in the second game, when they feel behind 4-0, Troy battled back to win.
“The second game was much better,” Blackmon said. “We started slow in the first inning, but after that we picked it up and got our feet under us.”
Ethan Walker got the start for Post 70 in game two. He pitched the first inning before giving way to Edge Branum who pitched the final innings and picked up the win.
“Edge pitched well,” Blackmon said. “He really settled in around the third inning. He was able to get some quick outs.”
Millbrook failed to score after the first inning allowing Post 70 to cruise to a two-run win.
Post 70 will be back in action at 9 a.m. today when they play Huntsville Post 247, a game that was originally scheduled for Thursday.
“We are just looking to play our game unlike we did today,” Blackmon said. “We need to come out focused and ready to play.”
