Eagles preparing for season

The Goshen Eagles are working toward the 2016 football season.

“It’s been good,” head coach Bart Snyder said of the first week of practice. “Last week was one of those weeks where we are trying to get everybody there. We had a good turnout, and a good group of young men that are working extremely hard.”

The players spent the majority of the time working on fundamentals and the ins and outs of playing football. This week, the coaching staff has been able to focus on filling out the roster and placing the players in their right positions.

“We are more team-oriented,” Snyder said. “We are trying to get guys in the positions that we think they can play.”

Brock Snyder is the returning quarterback for the Eagles and so far has had a good run at practice.

“He will be our quarterback until he can’t do it,” Snyder said. “He has a pretty good off season. He has been working really hard and has a good knowledge of the game. He is moving in the right direction. I hope he can make it through the regular season uninjured.”

With school now underway, the Eagles will begin to balance schoolwork and work on the field.

“Our kids have to come from far away,” Snyder said. “They have to get up earlier than they normally would. Then with the rigor of the school day, to turn around and practice there is going to be some wear and tear. As we have to get acclimated to the heat, we have to get acclimated to being back in school.”

The Eagles will hit the field on August 19 when they play a jamboree in Elba against GW Long and Wicksburg.
