Eagles to use jamboree game as a measuring stick

The Goshen Eagles are ready to begin the season on Friday when they head to Elba to play in the season opening Jamboree.
The Eagles will be teamed up against Elba, and they will be taking on Wicksburg and G.W. Long.
“It’s the opening of the season and we get to see what the guys have been working on since last spring,” said Eagles head coach Bart Snyder. “It’s going to measure what we’ve got to do to become contenders this year.”
Both Goshen and Elba will play two quarters of offense and two quarters of defense on Friday night against G.W. Long and Wicksburg.
During the first quarter the Eagles will be on offense while Elba will be on defense and both teams will alternate over the final three quarters.
The format gives the Eagles the opportunity to be on the same sideline as region foe Elba.
“I know a lot of coaches over there and we will be able to mix right in,” Snyder said. “We will be able to learn something while standing on the same sideline as somebody that has played for a state championship. We get to see what they do and maybe pick up something that we can use.”
To be able to see what they are working with in advance of the first contest against Ariton is very valuable.
“When you are young as we are on the offensive line, it’s going to take some time to get them acclimated,” Snyder said. “There is only so much you can do in practice … This game will give us the ability to get some game footage against two very good ball teams.”
Kickoff in Elba is set for 7 p.m. on Friday.
