The Goshen Eagles volleyball team split a tri-match on Tuesday evening against Andalusia and area foe Elba.
The Eagles dropped the first match of the night to Andalusia 18-25, 22-25 before defeating Elba to close out area play 25-7, 25-13, 25-14.
“We were off this weekend, and we didn’t come back out and play like we needed to,” said Eagles head coach Amy Warrick. “Andalusia has a good team. I didn’t think we look horrible against them, we just didn’t look as sharp as we needed to.”
Warrick believes her team woke up and kicked things into gear against Elba.
“We got warmed up,” Warrick said. “We got the energy and we came back.”
Selena Elllis finished both the matches with eight aces, 26 points scored, 28 assists and one dig. Kelsey Gibson had eight aces, 13 points scored, 22 kills, one block and one dig. Anastasia Mallard had 10 kills and two blocks in both the matches, while Kate Warrick had two aces, two points scored, 14 assists, one kill and five digs.
Jada Hall finished both batches with one ace, 2 points scored seven kills and six digs. Hannah Calhoun had three aces, six points scored, one kill and 17 digs.
Lydia Harrison finished with two aces 13 points, 2 kills and one block. Molly Wares had six points and Briona Burden had one ace and 2 points and three assists.
The Eagles finished area play with a 5-0 record, giving them the area title and the right to host the tournament.
“It is great to be able to play at home,” Warrick said. “Anytime you can play at home, it’s an advantage. One of goals was to finish on top in the area. Now we can just concentrate on finishing the season.”
The Eagles will be back in action on Thursday when they host a tri-match with both Northview and New Brockton.
