Residents of Troy will have to wait a bit longer before the City releases its new customer portal that will allow residents to manage their utility usage.
When the customer portal was announced, the estimated time for it t be released to the public was sometime during the month of November.
Troy Utilities Manager Brian Chandler says that that launch date is going to be pushed back while the City and the software provider tweak the system.
“We’re testing it internally with employees and in-house staff,” Chandler said. “We’re making some updates to it. We were thinking maybe November to release it, but we found some things we wanted to change and they’re making some changes on their end. We just want to make sure everything works, operates and functions as it should.”
Chandler said that he isn’t sure exactly when the portal will be ready since the provider is also making changes, but said that the utilities department is now looking to release the software sometime after the first of next year.
The portal will break down electricity and water usage for residents so that they can see exactly what costs are associated with specific items or actions.
The breakdown of information will give users the opportunity to single out actions they can take to reduce their utility bills, whether its by setting their air conditioners to a different setting, running less water while brushing their teeth or any other actions that the portal shows are costing extra dollars.
