The Goshen Eagles soared their way through the Class 2A Sub-Regionals with a 63-45 win over Thorsby on Tuesday.
The Eagles (19-5) advance to Thursday’s regional semi-final in Montgomery.
“It feels good,” said Eagles head coach Ethan Carroll. “We felt at the beginning of the year that this was one of our goals … We are excited and we are ready to rock and roll.”
The Eagles started slowly but held a 14-6 lead at the end of the first quarter. “Overall we didn’t play great tonight,” Carroll said. “I thought we came out a little sluggish. However, with that being said, we scored some points when we needed to. We are excited and we are ready to rock and roll.”
The defense forced turnovers and the Eagles took a 27-14 lead into halftime. “At times we went on some scoring runs, but we were able to create some turnovers,” Carroll said. “Overall we didn’t shoot the ball well, but with the turnovers we were able to score off the fast break.”
After the Eagles took a 47-30 lead into the fourth quarter they were able to cruise to the 18-points win.
Zack Alford led the Eagles with 19 points, three assists, two steals and three rebounds. Michael Hollis scored nine points, five assists, and three steals and two rebounds and Caleb Dawson had nine points, three assists, two steals and seven rebounds.
The Eagles will now shift their focus to Thursday when they will play the winner of Southern Choctaw and R.C. Hatch beginning at 7:30 p.m.
“The coaches are going to meet at my house and we are going to work through the early morning hours (Wednesday),” Carroll said. “We are going to try and get our boys prepared. We are going to focus on what they do and we are going to try and get our boys familiar with their personnel. Come Thursday we are going to do a walk through and get at it.”
