TES Orff to perform at TMSC event

The Troy Music Study Club invites the public to its Founders’ Day Concert at 2:30 p.m. Sunday, February 26 at Troy Elementary School.
The featured performers will be the Troy Elementary School Orff Ensemble under the direction of Elaine Blocher.
“The Troy Elementary School Orff Ensemble is a xylophone group made up of fifth graders who audition at the beginning of the school year,” Blocher said. “The choir is made up is made up of fifth- and sixth-grade students who also audition.”
There are 28 fifth-graders in the xylophone group and 52 fifth- and sixth-graders in the choir.
“The music that will be heard includes a blues-type piece and a classical piece from the xylophone group and pop tunes and songs about friendship from the choir,” Blocher said.
“The Troy Music Study Club’s Founders Day Concert will be very entertaining and we encourage everyone to come and support our young musicians and singers,” said Amanda Ford.
The Orff Approach is a developmental approach used in music education. It combines music, movement, drama and speech into lessons that are similar to a child’s world of play. It was developed by the German composer, Carl Orff and colleague Gunild Keetman.
