The Pike Patriots finished day two of the Junior Varsity by defeating Edgewood 5-2 before falling to Glenwood 6-4.
Levi Sikes went 2-2 at the plate in game one while Jackson Blair and Cole McWhorters also contributed offensively for the Patriots.
Payne Griffin got the start for the Patriots, yielding to Landon Thrash for the final inning.
McWhorters started game two for the Patriots and ptiched four innings before giving way to Levi Sikes. Glenwood rallied in the final inning to defeat the Patriots.
“He pitched a great game,” said head coach Jonathon Valdez. “His first three innings were solid and then he started to miss the strike zone.”
Davis Allen went 2-2, while Sikes went 1-2. Holt Steed and McWhorters picked up RBIs.
The loss forces the Patriots into the semifinal game at 6 p.m. today against a team still to be determined.
“We have to stay aggressive with the bats,” Valdez said. “Our pitchers have to have command and throw strikes. We have to keep the intensity up and not get comfortable. We can’t slow down; we have to keep our foot on the gas. I have plenty of pitchers. Another positive is we are doing really good offensively. I would say we are the best hitting team overall.”
