Pet photo contest deadline extended until August 11

Come on folks! It only takes a few minutes to enter your pet in the Humane Society of Pike County’s 2018 Pet Photo Contest so why procrastinate?
The original deadline for entry is midnight July 31 and the clock in winding down with 40-something entries.
“But at least 66 entries are needed to fill the 2018 Pet Photo Calendar so we are extending the deadline for entry until midnight Friday, August 11 to give pet owners more time to enter their pets,” said Donna Brockmann, HSPC president. “Voting will still close at 5 p.m. Saturday, August 19. This date and time are firm because we have to get our results to the printer in order to get our 2018 Pet Photo Calendars here in plenty of time for Christmas and the New Year.”
Extending the deadline until August 11 squeezes the voting time for the later entries so all pet owners are encouraged to get those entries in as early as possible to allow for more time to vote on that special pet.
Brockmann said the annual Pet Photo Contest is the HSPC’s annual fundraiser that supports its spay/neuter program.
“The more entries we have and the more votes that are cast, the more dollars the HSPC will have in support of our spay/neuter program,” she said.
This spring, the HSPC allocated $12,000 for its spay/neuter program. That means there will be fewer abused, neglected and abandoned dogs and cats in Pike County.
“The best way to control the unwanted dog and cat populations is to have pets spayed/neutered,” Brockmann said. “The HSPC encourages all pet owners to help make the 2018 Pet Photo Contest the biggest and best ever. With the extended deadline, there is time to make it happen.”
Entering a pet is simple. Mail an 8×10 photo of the pet with the owner’s name, address and phone number, the pet’s name and the $10 entry fee to HSPC P.O. Box 296, Troy, AL 36081 or drop the entry off at The Little Framery, Troy Antiques, Guynn’s Income Tax and Bookkeeping Services in Troy; Jinrights Hillside Antiques on U.S. Highway 231 south of Troy; and EEZTEC in Brundidge.
Voting may be done at the same mailing address or at the same locations. Votes are only $1 each.
