Patriots’ offense struggles in loss

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots were out gained by 282 yards in their 33-6 loss to the mighty Monroe Academy Volunteers on Friday night in Monroeville.
The loss drops the Patriots to 4-1 on the season and 1-1 in Region 2 play.
The loss for the Patriots is the eighth straight loss at the hands of the Volunteers since 2010.
The Volunteer offense was too much for the Patriots to handle on Friday night. They finished with a total of 468 yards of offense compared to 186 yards by the Patriots.
The Volunteers scored early and often on Friday. They scored touchdowns in their first five possessions to take a comfortable 33-0 lead.
The Patriots were able to get on the board in the third quarter when quarterback Reed Jinright connected with Jade Sikes on a 13-yard touchdown pass to bring the score 33-6 where it would remain until the end of the game.
Jinright finished the game completing seven of his 19 passes for 87 yards and a touchdown.
TK Thomas led the Patriots in rushing with 62. His longest rush was 15 yards. Reed Johnson finished the night with 13 yards on 10 carries.
Wood Jinright finished with a team high four catches for 36 yards while Nate Renfroe and Sikes also hauled in a pass.
Reed Jinright and Max Copeland led the way on defense finishing with five tackles while Sikes, Johnson and Wood Jinright had three.
The Patriots will hit the road again next week to take on Autauga Academy in Prattville beginning at 7 p.m.
