Patriots escape with close win

The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots snapped a two-game losing streak with a 12-6 win over the Glenwood School on Friday night in Phenix City.
The win for the Patriots brings their record on the season to 5-2. The Patriots will get back into region play next Friday night when they host Northside Methodist for homecoming.
With just three touchdowns scored all evening long, the Gators and Patriots combined to score just six points in the first half.
The Patriots finished with 289 total yards of offense, 232 of which came on the ground. In comparison the Gators finished with 261 total yards of offense.
Patriot quarterback Reed Jinright finished the game completing seven of his 11 passes for 57 yards.
Jinright also led the Patriots on the ground on Friday night. Jinright finished with 89 yards on 15 carries and had one touchdown. The Patriots got good production by Reed Johnson and TK Thomas who finished with 67 and 69 yards respectively. Thomas also picked up a touchdown.
On the defensive side of the ball, Johnson led the way in tackles with six. Max Copeland finished with four, while Thomas and Grant Wilkes each had three.
The Patriots scored the only touchdown of the first half in the second quarter when Reed Jinright scored on a quarterback keeper from 12 yards out to give the Patriots a 6-0 lead after a Wood Jinright extra point attempt was blocked.
Glenwood evened things up in the third quarter on a three-yard touchdown completion. Jade Sikes blocked the extra point to keep the game tied at 6.
With 1:51 remaining in the third quarter, the Patriots retook the lead on a 13-yard touchdown run by Thomas to put the Patriots up 12-6.
The Gators had one final chance to tie or take the lead when they took over with 1:51 remaining in the game at their own 15-yard line. The Gators made it down to the Patriots 41-yard line before turning the ball over on downs to give the Patriots the win.
The win for the Patriots gives them back-to-back wins over the Gators.
Kickoff next week between the Knights and Patriots is scheduled for 7 p.m.
