It took eight weeks, but the Zion Chapel Rebels handed head coach Randy Bryant his first win on Friday night when they defeated Calhoun 22-0.

The win for the Rebels brings their record on the season 1-7 overall and 1-4 in region play.

Even with the win, Bryant believes his team still has a lot of improving to do.

“Overall I thought we played rather poorly,” Bryant said. “It’s great to come out with a 22-0 win. I’m pleased, but we are still better than we have shown. We got two games left and I hope we continue to improve. Hopefully we can win another here in the end.”

The Rebels got on the board first with a safety to put them up 2-0. John McCrory sacked the Calhoun quarterback in the end zone. Hunter Oswald scored the Rebels first touchdown of the night on a 9-yard touchdown run to put the Rebels up 9-0.

Strong running by Bhrett Flowers and Oswald led to the Rebels second touchdown of the night giving them a 15-0 lead with 3:20 left in the third. Austin Mitchell scored the final touchdown of the night on an eight-yard touchdown run and after a successful extra point the Rebels led 22-0 late in the fourth quarter.

The Rebels will be back in action next week when they head to Elba to take on the Tigers.

“Anytime you get a win it helps your confidence,” Bryant said. “It helps you feel better about all the work you put in. Its very important confidence wise to get a win.”
