Janette Carole Shirley Meads

Janette Carole Shirley Meads passed away at home on February 16, 2018 after a long battle with Parkinson’s Disease. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Mobile, Ala. Janette was born in Pike County, Ala. on October 4, 1939 to Allen Shirley and Neoma Thomas Shirley.
After spending her childhood in Goshen, Ala., Janette moved to Montgomery and started her working career. She worked as an insurance underwriter for American States Insurance until her diagnosis of Parkinson’s Disease at the age of 51. While she lived in Montgomery, she was known as “Janet”. She discovered her love for estate sales and antiques. She rented a space to sale her treasures in the Antique Mall off Atlanta Highway in Montgomery for years. Janet had many good friends and enjoyed meeting new friends during this time who also shared the love of antiques. She and her husband Bud later moved to Mobile, Ala. to be closer to their grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her beloved husband Harold “Bud” Meads, of 55 years; a daughter, Amanda Yarbrough (Jim) and two grandsons that she adored, Garrett and Connor Yarbrough of Mobile; two brothers, Tom (Charlotte) Shirley of Dothan, Ala. and Fred Shirley of Lanett, Ala.; one sister, Peggy (Stan) Blair of Duncanville, Texas; along with many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service will be held for Janette on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 11 a.m. in the Good Hope Baptist Church, in Pike County, Ala. The family is requesting in lieu of flowers, memorials in Janette’s memory may be made to the Cemetery Fund for Good Hope Baptist Church.
