Runs and hits were at a premium on Thursday evening in a 1-0 win for the Lady Patriots over Emmanuel Christian.
The win for the Patriots ups their record to 4-7 on the season.
Morgan Bundy got the call as the team’s starting pitcher against the Warriors. Bundy pitched all seven innings without allowing any runs on three hits while picking up nine strikeouts. She struck out the side in both the third and seventh innings.
In the third, with the game still scoreless, Bundy struck out the first two batters. After getting the second out she briefly lost the strike zone and threw eight consecutive balls. She struck the next batter out to get out of the inning.
The first and only run of the game touched home plate in the bottom of the fourth inning. Katelyn Dendy led off the inning with a double, but later ran into a double play on a lineout to the shortstop off the bat of Maggie Phelps. Grace Rushing stepped up to the plate and lashed a single. Emily Williamson came in to pinch run for Phelps. After a single by Ashelyn Atwell, Ansley Adams ripped a double to score Williamson for the game’s only run.
The Warriors had two singles in the fifth, before Bundy wriggled herself of the hook. She allowed the potential tying run on in sixth before throwing two strikeouts to once again escape.
The Patriots will be back in action this afternoon when they take part in the Macon East Tournament.
