Students at Troy Elementary School planted strawberries and other fruits and vegetables Thursday while learning about gardening and nutrition from the Troy University Office of Civic Engagement and the USDA. The program first began last year with a USDA grant to create the gardens in Troy and Montgomery. Jonathan Cellon, director of the Office of Civic Engagement at that time, said the gardens are a way for students to have better access to fruits and vegetables and to learn more about nutritional information.
