Trojans fall in tourney opener to Ariton

The Charles Henderson softball team began play in the Wicksburg Tournament on Friday afternoon with a lopsided 11-3 loss to Ariton.
The Purple Cats scored in four of the five innings played on Friday afternoon including three runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings.
Emma Kirkpatrick got the start for the Trojans. Kirkpatrick pitched all five innings in the loss. She gave up 11 total runs, but only 6 were earned. The Trojans committed eight errors. Kirkpatrick allowed nine hits and one walk.
Ariton jumped on the board in the first inning and grabbed an early 2-0 lead. The Trojans stormed back in the bottom of the second and took their only lead when they put three runs on the board.
Molly Kate Sanders ripped a two-run double scoring both Whittaka Lowery and Graci Williams. Kirkpatrick drove in the Trojans’ final run of the game when she flew out to right, sending in Sanders to put the Trojans up 3-2.
The Trojans finished with six hits in the loss. Rose Snyder led the way going 2-3 at the plate, while Kirkpatrick, Williams, Sanders and Madison Stewart each had one hit.
