TALLAHASSEE – Troy (17-12) posted 13 hits on the day, but it was no match for No. 14 Florida State’s high-octane offense as the Seminoles defeated the Trojans in both games of the doubleheader on Wednesday night at the Seminole Softball Complex.
Game one: Florida State 12, Troy 2
The long ball powered the Seminoles (23-6) over Troy in game one as eight of their 12 runs came across as a product of hits that cleared the fence. Three different Seminoles blasted a home run, one solo shot, two, two-run balls and a three-run home run to end the game.
Troy got on the board with a walk from Katie Webb in the bottom of the third and a double into right field from Stephanie Snyder. With two on and just one out, Madeline Porter drove a ball up the middle scoring both runners as the Triojans took a 2-1 lead.
Troy continued to get runners on base, but left six stranded as the Trojans could no plate anymore runs in the game.
Porter led the team at the plate going 2-for-3 with two RBI. Peyton Glover made her 10th start in the circle and threw 5.1 innings before freshman Kynsley Rae Blasingame entered as relief. The loss moves Glover to 6-3 on the year.
Game two: Florida State 9, Troy 1
Kaylee Hussey went 2-for-2 in the second game of the night as both hits went for extra bases. She blasted her first home run of the season to plate Troy’s lone run in the final game of the doubleheader.
Florida State continued its offensive production with back-to-back three-run innings in the third and fourth innings.
Three pitchers made an appearance in game two, but it was freshman Annie Willis that made the start. Although she gave up four runs, she also threw three strikeouts in just 3.0 innings of work.
