Hubert Williford

Hubert Williford, 81, of Pensacola, Fla. passed away Tuesday, April 10, 2018.

He was born August 14, 1936, in Troy, Ala., the son of Lewis A. Williford and Norma Griffin Williford. He attended Troy City Schools and graduated from Troy State Teachers College in 1958 with a degree in history and English. He taught school briefly in Greenville, Ala., before marrying his college sweetheart, Pat Wynn, in August 1958. They have been married 60 years. Hubert and Pat came to Pensacola to work for the Escambia County School Board. He was a classroom teacher, assistant principal, principal and Director of Elementary Education for 35 years before retiring in 1993.

He was selected as Outstanding Principal of the Year for Northwest Florida in 1993.

Hubert was a member of the Escambia County Library Board, a board member, president and Jean Lafitte the 51st for Krewe of Lafitte. He was Apollo of the Krewe of Aphrodite. He was a member of the Freedom’s Foundation of Valley Forge, serving as a board member and president. He was an active member of Fiesta of Five Flags, working as a volunteer of Fiesta Forces and a Commando. He was the Padre in the Fiesta of Five Flags Court in 2007. Hubert was a member of First Presbyterian Church and severed as an elder in the 1990’s.

He is preceded in death by his brothers, David, Lewis Hill and Richard; and sisters, Suzanne Tinnea and Betty Carter.

Survivors include his wife, Pat; son, Lewis (Gemell); and grandchildren, David, Stacie, Ricky and Emily.

A visitation will be 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday, April 12, 2018 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel in Pensacola, Fla. A Memorial Service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2018 at First Presbyterian Church, 33 E. Gregory St. Pensacola, FL 32501 with a reception to follow.
