“Libraries Rock” and no library rocks quite like the Troy Public Library.
Teresa Colvin, TPL children and young adult director, said sign-up for the library’s 2018 Summer Library Program begins Tuesday, May 1 for ages 4-18.
“We have an exciting Summer Library Program for children and young adults,” Colvin said. “It will ‘rock!’”
Colvin said something very special is planned for the kickoff of the children’s program on Tuesday, May 1.
Children ages 4-11 are invited to Paddington Bear’s Sleepover from 6 until 8 p.m. at the library. The Sleepover will feature a Pajama Movie and Stuffed Animal Sleepover.
“Children are invited to bring their favorite stuffed animal with them to enjoy the movie, ‘Paddington 2’ and their stuffed animals may stay for a sleepover at the library,” Colvin said. “This will be very exciting for the stuffed animals because they don’t often get invited to a sleepover with other stuffed animals.”
Children under 11 must be accompanied by an adult.
The stuffed animals may be picked up in the children’s room at noon on Wednesday.
“The stuffed animals may have stories to share about their adventures at the sleepover,” Colvin said.
The TPL hopes to inspire children do read during the summer and programs are planned that will peak their interest in reading.
“Children ages four and five, will be introduced to the delights of creativity through story time, crafts and puppetry on Mondays,” Colvin said. “For the 6-11-age groups, our Tuesday programs will include a Luau Party, an exciting Hawaiian-themed outdoor event.”
Also, Dr. Magical Balloons will be back by popular demand. Animal Tales will feature a variety of exotic wildlife that is “Born to be Wild.”
“The children should come prepared for up-close personal learning about these animals that ‘rock,’ Colvin said. The summer program will also feature a Movie Day and a Craft Day.
The 2018 Summer Library Program for young adults will get off to a fast start on June 14 and wind down on July 19.
“This program will really rock,” Colvin said. “We kickoff with a ‘Name That Tune’ party on June 14 and follow up on June 21 with ‘Test Your Wizard Skills’ in the Harry Potter Escape Room as our young adults figure out how to escape or get locked in.”
Colvin said the summer program’s Murder Mystery is one of the most popular events for young adults.
The “Rock ‘n’ Roll Over Dead” mystery will present the question, “Was it a heart attack or was the music librarian murdered?’
“We also have ‘Game Day’ and ‘Movie Day’ so it will be a fun time at the library for our young adults.
And, there are prizes to be won for the summer’s top readers. Signup for entry in the “Read On!” summer reading awards program also begins on May 1. Reading Logs are due by 5:30 p.m. on July 17.
“So, sign up, get set and start reading!” Colvin said.
