Merilyn Yvonne Bowie Dwornik, 82, died at her home on Sunday, April 29, 2018 surrounded by her loving husband, Ralph and dear friend Mini Watson. She was born on October, 7, 1935 to Teressa Powell and Zelotes Holmes Bowie in Troy Alabama both whom preceded her in death. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Ralph Dwornik, her sister June Bowie Carlon (Harry) of Louisville, KY, her sister in law Zelpha Grobe (Bill) of Ottawa, IL, nieces Cindy Carlon of Nashville, TN, Pamela Waken of Ottawa, IL, nephews Mike Carlon of Louisville KY, Rob Carlon (Ginger) of Greenville, SC, Rick Scott (Linda) of Ottawa, IL .
Merilyn graduated from Troy High School in 1953. After high school Merilyn went to the University of Alabama for a year and then moved to be with the family in Bettendorf, IA. She got a job with the phone company and transferred to Chicago for work. Her best friend introduced her to Ralph on a blind date in 1958 in Peru, IL. He knew he had a keeper from that first blind date. During their 59 year marriage, they lived in LaSalle Illinois and Troy Alabama. She was a member and past president of Troy Arts Council Auxiliary, member and past president of Ladies Association of Troy Country Club, member of the Ladies Golf Association at Troy Country Club, Office manager of Troy Country Club, and was the owner of Uniquely Merilyn’s. She was an avid Troy Trojan season ticket holder and fan. Merilyn and Ralph have always been active whether it was golfing, camping, canoeing or entertaining friends. Merilyn never met a stranger just like her father Zo. She had the gift to always make everyone feel loved whether they had 2 or 4 legs. She will be greatly missed by everyone who knew her.
There will be a memorial service at their home. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite church or charity in her honor. Arrangements are announced by Dillard Funeral Home of Troy, Alabama.
