The Pike Liberal Arts Patriots volleyball team concluded the first ever Mini-Patriots camp on Thursday morning.
Over 23 children participated in the three-day camp that focused on the fundamentals of the game of volleyball.
“It went really well,” said Patriot head volleyball coach Hayden Wilson. “The little girls enjoyed it and the older girls enjoyed it too. All the kids were ready and eager to learn. They worked really hard. It was hot, but they enjoyed it.”
This week’s camp was not only for the children, but for the members of the Patriot volleyball team as well.
“We had varsity and junior varsity girls,” Wilson said. “We kind of paired them up with a younger girl. We split them up into two different age groups. They worked really well together and a lot of teamwork was shown by the campers and my players.”
The players responded favorably to the camp and Wilson believes they got a lot out of it.
“They saw a little into the coaching and instruction world,” Wilson said. “They all did really good. They worked together with each other and they showed the campers the different levels of volleyball. The girls helped out a lot.”
Other than fundamentals, Wilson wanted to show the youth of Troy the fun side of volleyball.
“We had 23 campers that came out,” Wilson said. “I think that is a good number with this being our first year having a camp. We had girls aged 5 all the way to 11. It worked out pretty well.”
