The Pike Patriots will participate in their second 7-on-7 Tournament of the summer when they travel to play at Meadowview Christian School.
The Patriots will be one of 10 schools to participate in the tournament that will consist of pool play and a single elimination tournament.
“It will be fun,” said head coach Gene Allen. “It was the one we went to last year and had a lot of success at. Hopefully we can improve on some of the things we did the other day. We would love to win, but the main thing we use it for is to get better at what we do.”
In the Patriots’ first tournament of the summer, they participated in the Wiregrass 7-on-7 tournament that featured AHSAA members that participate in its highest classes. This time around, the Patriots will feel more at home.
“This will be all AISA schools,” Allen said. “Speed-wise we will match up a lot better than the one at Charles Henderson. That was a great experience. I thought we played pretty hard, we just didn’t have the numbers everyone else did. In this one, everyone will be about the same.”
It will give the Patriots skill players another opportunity to get better in advance of the season opener in late August.
“We are working on running the right routes and working with the quarterbacks on making the right reads,” Allen said. “It’s a big opportunity, but at the same time it’s just fun going out there and competing with other people.”
The Patriots will begin pool play at 4:30 against Marengo.
