Dr. Jasper Allen Jones

Dr. Jasper Allen Jones went home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 10, 2018, at the age of 93.  A native of Salem, Alabama, he is survived by his daughter, Marian Renfroe (Jimmy) and son, Allen Cox Jones (Vicki); five grandchildren, Al Renfroe (Laura), Fran Spann (Zach), Will Jones, Ben Jones, and Sam Jones; and eight great-grandchildren, Scott Taylor Renfroe, Cade Renfroe, Addie Renfroe, Caroline Renfroe, Harper Renfroe, Jones Spann, John David Spann and Jasper Spann; sisters, Josephine Teague and Kathryn Thompson; sister-in-law, Kathleen Cox and many special nieces and nephews. 

Dr. Jones was preceded in death by his loving wife of 69 years, Frances Cox Jones; his parents, Dewey and Lillie Mae Jones; and brother, Frank Jones.

Dr. Jones loved the Lord and his family.  He served his church and was devoted to his family.  He spent many hours attending sporting events where his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were participating.  He was their biggest fan.  He was a Godly influence over all of his family.

Dr. Jones attended schools in Opelika, and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa.  After serving in World War II, he and a group of pre-dental students on the Tuscaloosa campus worked with dentists and legislators to get a bill authorized for the establishment of a School of Dentistry at the University of Alabama.  After graduating from the first class of the University of Alabama School of Dentistry in Birmingham, he moved to Troy in 1952 where he practiced for 47 years before retiring at the age of 75.  He was devoted to his employees and his patients, to whom he gave out many nickels through the years.

During his years in Troy, Dr. Jones was active in First Baptist Church as a Sunday School Teacher and Deacon. He was also a member of the Lion’s Club and Rotary Club.  He served 14 years on the Edge Memorial Hospital Board of Directors, and 12 years on the Board of Trustees of the Alabama Children’s Home. He was also active in the Troy Chamber of Commerce, serving as Vice-President. Dr. Jones served as President and member of the Alabama Dental Association, and the State Board of Dental Examiners of Alabama.  He held offices in the 3rd District Dental Society, and was also awarded the Most Excellent Fellow Award of the Alabama Dental Association. 

Pallbearers will be Al Renfroe, Will Jones, Ben Jones, Sam Jones, Zach Spann, Scott Taylor Renfroe, Cade Renfroe, David Conrad, Jr., Travis Bean and Tony Smith.  Memorials may be made in his memory to First Baptist Church, 200 W. College Street, Troy, AL 36081 or to a favorite charity.

The service for Dr. Jones with Dr. Luke Lane officiating will be held on Friday, July 13, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Troy.  Immediately prior to the service, the family will receive friends in the First Baptist Church Parlor from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m.  Burial will follow in the Green Hills Cemetery with Dillard Funeral Home directing.
