Pike Liberal Arts rising sophomore Scott Taylor Renfroe is heading to Kentucky to participate in the National Kicking Showcase of Champions.

The camp runs from July 27-28 and it is a camp only for the invited.

“I am really excited about this,” Renfroe said. “It’s a very important camp and invitational.”

This is not Renfroe’s first camp. Renfroe has been to camps before, both that featured instruction and one that determines state rankings.

“There are rankings camps and instructional camps also,” Renfroe said. “This is more of a rankings camp.”

According to Nationalkickratings.com, Renfro is ranked fourth in the country in his graduating class on 2021. He is also the state’s top kicker for the class of 2021.

Renfroe hasn’t been kicking the ball for very long. Two seasons ago while playing soccer, Renfroe was confronted by a coach and was asked to join the football program.

“I played soccer all my life and our JV coach when I was seventh grade told me he wanted me to try and kick,” Renfroe said. “I started it and I loved it.”

Renfroe finished the 2017 season making 31 out of his 33 extra point attempts and accumulated four touchbacks.

While at the camp, Renfroe will go through drills similar to what he goes through during practice and before and during football camps.

“We will be kicking and doing some stretches,” Renfroe said. “Sometimes we even do some yoga.”

Renfroe will be joined by some of the nation’s top kickers over the course of the two-day invitational.

“It’s very rewarding,” Renfroe said. “I am really excited about all of this.

Renfroe’s ultimate goal is to be the best kicker in the state and beyond.

“I am just going to have to work hard and do all the drills that the coaches tell me to do,” Renfroe said.
