A glass tube containing cocaine fell from the pants of an inmate at the Troy City Jail Thursday shortly after he was arrested for felony possession of marijuana, according to police.
Troy Police Chief Randall Barr said officers stopped Bernard Still Jr., 19, on George Wallace Drive when they noticed the smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle.
“After officers got Still out of the car, he ran from the officers, Barr said. “Officers caught Still and took him into custody for attempting to elude police. Officers then found several bags of marijuana concealed inside of Still’s clothing.”
Still was charged at that point with first-degree possession of marijuana for allegedly possessing the marijuana for use by someone other than himself, a Class C Felony, and attempting to elude law enforcement, a misdemeanor.
As he was changing into his jail uniform at the Troy City Jail, officers said a small glass tube fell from his pants containing individually wrapped rock-like substances.
“They field-tested positive for the presence of cocaine,” Barr said.
As police searched Still’s vehicle, they came across a license plate that was reported stolen out of Montgomery, although the car itself was not stolen.
Police charged Still with possession of controlled substance, a Class C Felony, and promotion of prison contraband, a Class C felony, for the cocaine and fourth-degree reception of stolen property for his possession of the stolen tag.
He was then incarcerated in the Pike County Jail on a $8,500 bond.
