Christmas events downtown moved inside due to rain

It didn’t rain on Troy’s Christmas parade Monday night, but rain is forecast to fall Saturday during the city’s other big Christmas celebration.
But the rain isn’t putting a damper on the events; Leigh Anne Windham with the City of Troy said the events have simply been moved inside to the former Wise building on the Square.
“Saturday’s Downtown Christmas Fun Day activities will be held in the old Wise building located in between WTBF and Momma Goldberg’s due to Saturday’s forecast which is showing lots and lots of rain,” Windham said.
The one exception is the showing of The Polar Express, which has been moved to Saturday, December 15.
The Downtown Holiday market will be from 9 a.m. to noon, where shoppers can find homemade baked goods and unique handmade crafts.
Santa will entertain children from 1 to 4 p.m. and will be telling stories at 2 p.m. and 3 p.m. A gingerbread house building contest for ages 13 and up will run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. and an ornament decorating for ages 12 and under will also run from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Residents can also vote for their favorite window displays while they’re downtown.
“We introduced the Downtown Christmas Window Display Contest last year and it was quite the hit,” Windham said. “The businesses do such a great job with their windows and the community enjoys the displays during the Christmas season and voting for their favorites.”
Voting is open now and goes through Friday, December 14.
“We love doing this because we love Christmas,” said Jennifer Brooks, owner of Brooks Salon. “We just really love decorating and for the customers to walk by and see how much we are in the spirit of Christmas. When the businesses do this is brings the spirit of Christmas into town and we just love looking at everyone’s windows. Plus, Jesus is the reason for the season.”
