Mother Nature is cooperating in bringing down the mercury for the Brundidge Historical Society’s Chili Country Christmas at the We Piddle Around Theater in Brundidge this weekend.
“There’s no better way to get into the Christmas spirit than to sit down to a bowl of hot chili on a chilly winter night and enjoy the songs and stories of the Christmas season,” said Cathie Steed, BHS ticket chair. “And who better to bring the merriment of the season and a renewed awareness of the real reason for the season than Josh Goforth?”
Steed said the BHS is excited to welcome the Grammy nominee back to the stage of the We Piddle Around Theater.
“So many people have said they would like to hear ‘just Josh’ so tonight and Saturday night it’s ‘Just Josh’ at the Chili Country Christmas.”
Goforth comes from a place called Sodom in the mountains of Western North Carolina. He has appeared at the Grand Ole Opry and Carnegie Hall and in every state except Hawaii and throughout Europe and Japan.
Everywhere Goforth goes, Steed said, he has audiences clapping and tapping their toes to his picking and singing and alternately laughing and getting a little misty-eyed at his stories of family, friends and life in the mountains.
No tickets are available for the Chili Country Christmas concerts, however, Steed said tickets are available for the 2019 Pike Piddlers Storytelling Festival January 25 and 26 in Brundidge and Troy.
“We’ve had a lot of interest in festival tickets for Christmas gifts so we do have them available by calling 334-685-5524,” Steed said. “Donald Davis, the Dean of Storytelling, will again head the lineup of master storytellers. We have a couple of special events planned for this year’s festival in celebration of Alabama’s Bicentennial. The other festival storytellers and the special events will be announced after Christmas.”
