Reports from national media outlets including CBS and ESPN indicate that Troy football Head Coach Neal Brown will be accepting the head coaching position at West Virginia University.
Speculation all week has been that Brown was one of the top candidates for the job after former WVU Head Coach Dana Holgerson left to coach at Houston University.
Brown has coached the Trojans for the past four years, leading the program to three straight 10-win seasons and three consecutive bowl victories as well as upsets against prestigious Power 5 programs Nebraska and LSU.
In his four years at Troy, Brown has led the Trojans to a 35-16 record.
Prior to becoming a head coach at Troy, Brown spent time at Troy as a receiver’s coach and offensive coordinator from 2006-2010.
After leaving Troy, Brown became offensive coordinator at Texas Tech under former Auburn head coach Tommy Tuberville.
Brown returned to Troy in December of 2014. In his first year, Brown led the trojans to a 4-8 record. Following the 2015 season, Brown and the Trojans went a combined 31-8.
Brown has garnered a lot of interest in the last two seasons. Following the 2017 season, Brown’s named was listed as strong candidate for the Arizona head coaching position. Following this season, Brown was linked to jobs such as Texas Tech, Kansas State, Louisville and others.
ESPN is reporting that Brown will receive a six-year deal with the Mountaineers.
The reports have not yet been confirmed officially by either West Virginia or Troy University.
