Louis Fox ‘Sonny’ Williford Jr.

Louis Fox “Sonny” Williford, Jr., 72, of Troy, died Saturday, February 23, 2019, at his home.
Sonny was a two-time MVP at Charles Henderson High School in 1963 and 1964. He went to Livingston State on a football scholarship and played as a true freshman. He entered into the United States Marine Corps and was the highest-ranked shooter in his regiment, scoring a 226 out of 230 on his rifle test. He was promoted to PFC and was sent to Vietnam with the 2nd Batallion 26 Marines and served in Chulai and Phuvai before moving to Dasong, Vietnam just before the 77-day siege. He worked as a Health Department inspector for 35 years and was an avid golfer.
A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at noon in the chapel of Green
Hills Funeral Home with Reverend Curtis Kennington officiating. The carriage of Green Hills Funeral Home will transport Sonny to his burial site in the Green Hills Memorial Park Cemetery.
Military Honors will then be provided by the United States Marine Corps. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until noon at the funeral home.
His survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Louis “Fox” and Lauren Williford III.; daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Trent Stough; grandchildren, Louis “Fox” Williford IV, Sunny Williford, Logan Stough and Bryson Stough; sisters, Mary Duncan Hall and June Rose. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Fox “Son” Williford and Alma Griffin Williford; his wife, Elizabeth “Betsy” Sawyer Williford; and sisters, Geraldine Jones and Montny Burkett.
Serving as pallbearers will be Dr. Lawrence Johnston, Duncan Lindsey, Mike Rose, Wade
Jones, Mike Kreis, Jimmy Lunsford, Buck Corley, Gary Guthrie and Bill Stone. Honorary
pallbearer will be Mike Amos.
In lieu of flowers, memorials should be made to the Semper Fi Fund, C/O John Sattler, 825
College Blvd., Suite 102, PMB 609, Oceanside, CA 92057.
