The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots scored four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to knock off Abbeville Christian 5-1 in game one of the Jonah McWaters Tournament on Friday afternoon in Troy.

Pool play games lasted just an hour and 15 minutes and the Lady Patriots needed almost all of them to pull out a win over the Generals.

With the game tied at one, the Patriots had all five batters reach in the fifth inning before ultimately scoring five runs before time expired. Emily Dean and Morgan Bundy both reached on a walk and a bunt single. Both runners came around to score on a single to left field by Aubreigh Maulden. Grace Rushing came up next and drove in both Avery Henderson and Maulden on a hit to left that the General left fielder couldn’t grab, bringing the score to 5-1.
