Shutout: Saupe goes the distance on the mound in Goshen’s 3-0 win over Elba

The Goshen Eagles knocked off Elba 3-0 in a pitcher’s duel on Tuesday afternoon in Goshen.
Just one run was scored over the course of four innings on Tuesday. A two-run fifth inning for the Eagles gave them some added insurance runs on their way to a 3-0 win.
Blake Saupe went the distance on the mound for the Eagles. Saupe shutout the Tigers and held them to two hits, one in the first and one in the seventh. He hit one batter and walked another, while striking out nine batters, he struck out the side in the fifth inning.
After three scoreless innings, the Eagles broke the ice in the bottom of the fourth inning. Danny Cooper reached on a one-out single and came around to score the game’s first run on a wild pitch.
Saupe set down 11 straight batters from the third inning until the top of the seventh inning, the offense gave up two insurance runs in the fifth inning. Logan Boyce and Bryce Williams both reached with singles to begin the fifth inning. Both runners came around to score via the sacrifice fly.
The Eagles finished with five hits. McGwire Stanley finished with two hits including a triple, while Cooper, Boyce and Williams all had one hit.
