The Charles Henderson golf team hosted and competed in a match at the Troy Country Club on Thursday.
The match marked the third time that the Trojans hosted a match at the Country Club and Thursday they had their best performance.
As a team, the Trojans finished in second place after shooting 320. The Trojans finished behind top finisher Andalusia, who fired off a 309 as a team. Northview finished in third place with a score of 328 and Eufaula finished in fourth with a 368.
“I was really proud of the guys,” said head coach Doug Branson. “I thought as a team that is as good as we have shot. We had one guy in the 70s and three guys in the 80s. We were playing at home and that is a positive, but I’m really proud of the effort today.”
Griff McCrary led the Trojans by shooting a 76, good enough for third-best in the tournament behind Andalusia’s top scorers, who shot a 71 and a 73.
Braden Prestwood finished with an 80, while Brady Barron shot an 81. Cody Paramore finished with an 83 and Grant Baker fired off a 94.
With two regular season matches remaining, Branson is starting to see his team live up to their potential.
“At the beginning of the year, I really thought we had a chance for guys to be able to score like we are scoring now. It’s taken us the majority of the year to get going. We are finally starting to get close to our potential. We have gotten better as the year has gone on and we have gotten more consistent. Our number one and two are starting to get really confident with themselves. The best part of our team is that the three, four and five hole guys, we are starting to get those guys into the 80s consistently.”
The Trojans will close out the regular with two matches on Tuesday and Thursday at the Troy Country Club. They will head to sectionals in Mobile on Monday.
