Trojans top Slocomb

Mykyia Milton sent the Charles Henderson crowd home happy when she reached safely on an error, allowing the winning run to touch home plate in a 5-4 win over Slocomb on Monday night in Troy.
Slocomb and the Trojans entered the bottom of the seventh inning tied at 4. Stella Gilbreath reached on a leadoff double to center field and came around to score the winning run on an error by the Slocomb first baseman.
Emma Kirkpatrick got the call to be the starting pitcher for Charles Henderson. Kirkpatrick pitched all seven innings and allowed four runs on eight hits and struck out four batters.
Heather Maxwell and Gilbreath both finished 3-3 at the plate with two runs scored. Sydni Garret picked up a hit with an RBI and a run scored.
The Trojans jumped on the board in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Madison Stewart. After the Red Tops evened the score with a run in the third, the Trojans got it right back in the bottom of the third inning when Maxwell came around to score on an error by the Slocomb third baseman to give Charles Henderson a 2-1 lead after three innings.
The Trojans stretched their lead to two in the fifth when Gilbreath scored on an another error by the Slocomb defense.
After two Slocomb runs tied the game at three in the sixth inning the Trojans, for the second time of the evening, answered with a run in the sixth on a home run by Garrett, giving the Trojans a 4-3 lead.
Slocomb evened the score in the top of the seventh, but for the third and final time, the Trojans answered in their half of the inning to secure the win.
The Trojans will be back in action today when they host Lamp beginning at 4:30 p.m.
