PLAS secures third seed

The Pike Liberal Arts Lady Patriots were an inning-and-a-half away from securing a three seed in the upcoming state tournament before weather halted their game against Springwood on Thursday afternoon. They finished it off on Friday with a 10-3 win over Springwood at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.
The Patriots and Springwood went into the fifth inning tied at two before the Patriot offense tacked on three runs to take a 5-2 lead into the sixth inning.
The game resumed on Friday and the Patriots tacked on five more runs to secure a 10-3 win.
Ally Rushing got the start on Thursday and returned to the circle to close out the game on Friday. Rushing allowed three runs on four hits in her seven innings of work. She walked one batter and struck out four.
Springwood picked up a run in the top half of the sixth inning to shrink the Patriots to two at 5-3. The Patriots got that run back and then some in the bottom of the inning. The Patriots got back-to-back RBI singles by Grace Rushing and Maggie Phelps to push the Patriot lead to four at 7-3. One batter later, Maulden drove in both Rushing and Phelps with a double to center. After a sacrifice fly by Maddi Johnson drove in Williamson, Ashlyn Atwell smacked the second double of the inning, allowing Maulden to score the 10th run of the game.
Ally Rushing finished the game 3-4 with a run scored, while Atwell, Dawson and Grace Rushing each picked up two hits. Morgan Bundy, Phelps, Maulden and Johnson each had one hit.
The Patriots secured the three seed in the upcoming state tournament with the win. They will begin play at Lagoon Park in Montgomery next week.
