Play ball: Tournament play begins at the Sportsplex

Tournament season began on Thursday afternoon in Troy, Enterprise and Eufaula. Troy and Enterprise played host to district tournaments, while Eufaula played host to the 15U State Tournament.

Ozone Rookie: Troy 10 Eufaula 0 (Troy Sportsplex)

Troy jumped on Eufaula early and scored the game’s first three innings in the opening inning. They sent seven batters to plate and picked up two hits. All three of their runs came on wild pitches.

After scoring their fourth run on another wild pitch, Luke Sikes walked with the bases loaded to give Troy a 5-0 lead.

Troy broke the game open and eventually ended the game in the bottom of the fourth inning. Eight batters went to the plate in the inning. Wes Templin drove in a run on a single to left and Wade reached safely to bring the score to 7-0. Slade Russell had the big hit of the inning when he smacked a two-run double down the left field line. The game ended when Jack Baggett reached safely on an error.

Jaxon Wade got the start for Troy and went the distance. He allowed just one hit.

AAA Rookies: Troy 3 Enterprise 6 (Troy Sportsplex)

Troy squandered an early lead in their loss to Enterprise. Troy scored a run in the second and two more in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead. Enterprise bounced back to score four in the fifth and two more in the sixth to earn the three-run win.

Troy finished with six hits led by Pierce Gill.

15U: Troy 6 Wiregrass 5 (Eufaula)

Troy scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to steal a win in game one over Wiregrass in Eufaula.

Troy entered the final run trailing by three runs at 5-3. Jeff Warrick drove in Troy’s first run with a single to bring the score to 5-4. With the bases loaded and only one out, Skylar Kidd drove in the game’s final run with a double.

Kidd got the start on the mound for Troy in game one. Kidd pitched four innings and allowed four runs on two hits. JD Wilson pitched the remaining three innings and allowed one run on four hits.

Troy finished with 13 hits led by Nate Braisted, Danny Cooper, Jayden Jordan, Kidd and Jacob Spivey, all of whom picked up two hits.X
