Police have arrested a suspect in the murder of Willie Charles Scott, 58, last week in Troy.
Dunlap was taken into custody yesterday in Jasper by the U.S. Marshall’s Gulf Coast Regional Fugitive Task Force without incident.
“Investigators from the Troy Police Department travelled to the Walker County Jail to interview Dunlap about Scott’s death,” said Troy Police Chief Randall Barr. “Dunlap was then transported to the Troy City Jail, where he was held overnight. Dunlap will be transported to the
Pike County Jail later today.”
The 2003 Saturn Ion that Dunlap took from Scott’s residence after Scott’s death
was recovered with assistance from the Walker County Sheriff’s Department.
Dunlap was charged with capital murder on Friday after police identified him as a person of interest in the case.
Officers responded to the Scott’s residence last Wednesday shortly after noon and found Scott deceased inside the home, which is in the 22000 block of U.S. Highway 231.
Family and friends of Scott have said his death leaves a “great void in the community.”
“From a young boy until the last breath he took, ministry was his life,” Lee said. “He lived his ministry, he walked his ministry. He was born into the ministry, not made. Bishop Scott was an absolute. Because he believed ministry is not merely something that an individual can do, but what he must do. The drive in his ministry became a burden upon his heart that he continually worked at to fulfill. It was a holy preoccupation within his soul that caused him to step out in faith and embrace the work of ministry. His divine ministry gripped his soul and governed his spirit.”
No further details have been released yet about Scott’s death.
Capital murder is a Class A Felony punishably by life in prison or the death penalty. Dunlap will be held without bail at the Pike County Jail.
