For many Pike County residents, a Christmas tree has been a centerpiece of the home for the last month.
But now that Christmas has come and gone, what should families do with their dying trees?
The City of Troy Environmental Services Department is ready to help by picking up trees with their normal garbage routes.
“People can just put their Christmas trees out on their regular garbage route day and we will pick them up and store than at our facility,” said Vaughn Daniels, director of the envi-ronmental services department. “People can come to pick them up for use as artificial reefs in their ponds on a first-come, first-serve basis.”
Trees can be set out by the curb, but Daniels said the trees do need to be three feet away from garbage carts so that the city’s new automated trucks can still collect the trash effec-tively.
