The Charles Henderson Culinary Arts program is turning the cooking over to the community on Jan. 25 to see which team can cook the best chili.

The department will host its first Chili Cook-Off on Saturday, Jan. 25 in the CHHS cafetorium from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Culinary Arts Teacher Paula Shute said the department wanted to begin the cook-off as a fun way to help raise funds for the culinary arts department to help offset the costs for the program as well as the CHHS SGA.

Anyone is invited to create a team for the competition.

“Fratenities, sororities, fire departments – anyone that was involved in the recent cook-off at the Pioneer Museum; anyone can join,” Shute said.

The application is available on the CHHS website as well as the school Facebook page.

Entry to participate in the cook-off is $25. Guest tickets to sample the chilis will be $5 each, $1 for children 6 and under.

There will be both a people’s choice award as well as a judges’ award.

Shute said she hopes to continue the event annually.
