CHHS, PCHS compete in tournament games

Both the Pike County Bulldogs and Charles Henderson Trojans boy’s basketball teams were in action on Saturday afternoon.
The Pike County Bulldogs knocked off Headland 54-24, while the Charles Henderson Trojans fell to Greenville in area play 68-55 in Greenville.
Andres Burney picked up another double-double, something he has done very frequently for the Bulldogs this season and finished three blocked shots shy of earning a triple-double. He finished with 27 points, 15 rebounds and seven blocked shots.
The Bulldogs found themselves down by double figures early on Saturday. They fell behind and went into the second quarter trailing by 9 at 18-9.
Burney picked up seven of his 27 points in the second quarter on three made field goals. The Bulldogs went into the locker room at halftime trailing by one at 25-24.
The Bulldogs more than doubled Headland’s point total in the third quarter. Burney and Omar Cumberbatch had six third quarter points and the Bulldogs went into the fourth leading 42-33. Eight fourth quarter points by Burney helped the Bulldogs secure the win.
Cumberbatch finished the game with 10 points and seven rebounds. Amaghie Lampley had six points.
The Trojans were outscored 24-9 in the third quarter to help set up their 13-point loss to the Tigers.
Akeives Shorts led the Trojans with 15 points in the loss. The Trojans had two players score in double figures. Cody Youngblood finished with 11 points. Keith Wheeler and Tay Knox each had nine. Mario Davenport had five points and Devin Parker had four.
The Bulldogs will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Houston Academy in area play. The Trojans will also be in action on Tuesday when they host Rehobeth in Troy.
