The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans remained undefeated with a 77-12 win over area foe Rehobeth on Tuesday evening in Troy.
The win for the Trojans brings them to 2-0 in area play.
“The way we turned defense into offense, most of our points in the first half came straight from defense,” assistant coach William Nettles said. “Active hands, and we were trying to interrupt the passing lanes.”
The win for the Trojans gives them a 2-0 record coming out of the Christmas break, something that was very important to the Trojans as the season’s stretch run is set to begin.
“It’s always important for us to come in after a holiday and play well,” assistant coach Taj Brundidge said. “You stay home for so long, your not doing things for a certain amount of time. It’s always good to get energized after the break, being that it’s area play.”
The Trojans scored the game’s first 14 points on Tuesday. The Rehobeth Rebels finally got on the scoreboard with a three pointer by Sylvia Somma with 1:35 remaining in the opening quarter. The Trojans went into the second leading 23-3.
The Trojan defense held the Rebels scoreless in the second and stretched their lead to 32 points heading into halftime with the score 35-3.
The Trojans outscored the Rebels 42-9 in the second half to secure the comfortable win.
The Trojans had all seven players score in the game, three of which reached double figures.
Niaira Jones led the way with 26 points, 16 of which came in the second half. Makala Hobdy finished with 17 points and Raven Williams finished with 13. Deanna Gosha finished with nine.
The Trojans will be back in action on Friday when they travel to Ozark to take on Carroll for their third area game of the season.
“We need to keep playing defense,” Nettles said. “We stress defense to offense. We’ll go out there with the same mentality.
