Shorts leads Trojans to 47-32 win over Carroll

The Charles Henderson Trojans began play in the Class 5A Area 3 Tournament on Tuesday evening in Greenville.
The Trojans along with Rehobeth, Carroll and host Greenville are all vying to earn a spot in the upcoming sub-regional tournament. The top two seeds automatically qualify and the Trojans did just that with a 47-32 win over Carroll in round one.
The Trojans outscored the Eagles in all four quarters on Tuesday.
Keith Wheeler scored seven first quarter points and the Trojans rode into the second quarter holding a 13-10 lead.
Wheeler added a 3-pointer in the second quarter and along with Akieves Shorts’ four second quarter points, the Trojans went into the locker room at halftime leading 24-18.
Five more points from Shorts led to 11 more Trojan points in the third quarter. The Trojans held the Eagles to just three and went into the final quarter leading 35-21.
Shorts had 11 second half points, six of them came in the fourth quarter to help the Trojans secure the 15 point win.
Shorts finished with a game high 19 points. Zach Henderson and Wheeler both finished with 10 and Devin Parker had four. Cody Youngblood and Tay Knox each finished with two.
The Trojans advance to the area championship where they will play the winner of Greenville and Rehobeth.
Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday night in Greenville.
