Women’s Basketball Has 7-Game Win Streak Snapped at Coastal Carolina

CONWAY, S.C. – In a loud and hostile environment Thursday night the Trojans 7-game winning streak came to an end at the hands of a hot shooting Coastal Carolina team, 101-124. The loss brings the two programs into a tie for first-place in the Sun Belt Standings, with identical 10-2 conference records.
Troy had a decent day shooting from the field posting a shooting percentage of just under 40 percent while Coastal Carolina had its second-best offensive output of the season against a Division 1 opponent, shooting just under 50 percent and 52 percent from three, its highest 3-point percentage since Nov. 25, 2018 when shooting at least 19 threes’.
The Trojans’ Alexus Dye had another strong outing, earning her second-straight double-double and sixth of the season with 15-points and 13 rebounds. She was joined in double figures by Japonica James who scored a team-high 21, Jasmine Robinson who scored 19-points, including a career-high five triples, and Janiah Sandifer who scored a season-high, 11-points.
Coastal Carolina’s DJ Williams had the best offensive day of any Division 1 player this season and the fifth best offensive performance of any D1 player since the 2016-17 season. Williams scored 51-points Thursday night on 16-of-31 shooting from the field. She added eight assists and seven rebounds to her stat line.
