Lady Trojans begin play in the Trojan Classic

The Charles Henderson Lady Trojans began play in the 2020 Trojan Classic at the Troy Sportsplex on Friday afternoon.
The Trojans opened up the classic with a matchup with the Luverne Tigers. The Trojans scored three first inning runs, but fell to the Tigers 5-3.
The Trojans had two runners on with one out to begin the ball game when Madison Stewart drove a three-run home run over the fence in left field to give the Trojans an early 3-0 lead.
The Tigers were quick to respond when they scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning to pull to within one.
A Trojan error and a Luverne RBI single lifted the Tigers to a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the second inning. They closed out their scoring with an RBI groundout in the bottom of third inning.
Stella Gilbreath got the start for the Trojans. She pitched three innings of the timed contest. She allowed three runs on five hits and two walks. She struck out three batters.
Stewart finished with two hits to go along with her three RBI. Hannah Sparrow also finished with two hits, while McKenzie Cain had one.
The Trojans took on Opp in game two Friday night. Like in game one, the Trojans scored early in the first inning only to see their lead evaporate in a 6-4 loss.
Sadie Leverette got the start for the Trojans. Leverette pitched 2.2 innings before giving way to Olivia Kirkpatrick for the final 1.1 innings.
Kirkpatrick finished the game 2-3 at the plate and Leverette went 2-2 with an RBI. Stewart, Dakota Berry and Mikalah Griffin all had one hit for the Trojans in game two.
