Eagles score early in 6-1 win

The Goshen Eagles jumped on Elba in the first inning and went on to defeat the Tigers 6-1 on Monday afternoon in Elba.

The win for the Eagles gives them a 4-3 record on the season.

Pitcher Bryce Williams got the start for the Eagles and came one inning shy of earning a no hitter. He pitched into the seventh inning before being pulled for Bryan Galloway. Williams officially pitched six no hit innings with one run. He had five strikeouts and eight walks. Galloway pitched the final three outs for the Eagles. He allowed one hit and struck out one.

The Eagles scored three of their six runs in the top of the first inning. After singling to start the game Galloway came around to score the first run on an error by the Tiger first baseman.

McGwire Stanley was the next batter to the plate and he hit a two-run home run to right field to increase the Eagle lead to 3-0.

The Eagles had single runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings on Monday. Caleb Gamble reached on a one out single in the third and came around to score on a passed ball bringing the score to 4-0.

One inning later, Danny Cooper doubled on a line drive to left that allowed Will Snyder to score Goshen’s fifth run.

The Eagles had their first two batters reach in the bottom of the sixth inning. Carson Williams began the inning with a walk. After a Galloway single advanced him to third, Williams came in to score Goshen’s final run on a passed ball.

The Eagles finished with nine hits. Galloway and Gamble each finished 2-3. Kam Baker, Bryce Williams, Carson Williams, Cooper and Stanley all had one hit for the Eagles.

The Eagles will be back in action on Tuesday when they travel to play a doubleheader against Pleasant Home beginning at 4:30 p.m.
