Troy BOE shares meal plan for coronavirus closure

Troy school students will be provided free meals for the remainder of this week and the Monday following spring break.
The Troy Board of Education announced Monday at its monthly meeting that Troy Elementary School will have lunches available to “grab and go” from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Thursday and Friday while schools are closed due to concerns about the COVID-19 coronavirus.
The free meals will resume on Monday, March 30 after the system’s planned spring break. The meals are available to all students 18 and under.
The board also recognized its teachers of the year at the meeting on Monday. The teachers recognized were Lana Haley of Troy Elementary School, Sharon Rhodes of Charles Henderson High School, and Jennifer Sullivant of Charles Henderson Middle School.
The Charles Henderson High School state champion girls basketball team was also recognized for their representation of the school system.
The board also approved personnel changes, including the retirement of board secretary Cecilia Mitchell after 27 years with the board.
In other personnel action, the board:
• Approved the retirement of Cynthia Evans as third grade teacher at Troy Elementary School effective May 22, 2020
• Approved the resignation of Brock Kelley at CHHS effective February 28, 2020.
