Entertainment venues, youth sports and summer camps are among the businesses and activities that can reopen under the newest health order in Alabama.

Gov. Kay Ivey announced the lifting of additional restrictions on Thursday, saying “we can sustain a delayed way of life.”

In describing what she called learning ‘to live with a new normal” Ivey outlined the changes in the order that takes effect at 5 p.m. Friday, May 22 and remain in place until 5 p.m. July 3.:

• Entertainment venues, such as arcades, theaters and bowling alleys can reopen.
• Athletic activities such as practices, drills and conditioning can restart practice on May 23; competition allowed June 15.
• Education institutions can reopen June 1. This covers trade and professional schools.
• Childcare facilities can reopen without limitations on numbers.
• Summer camps can reopen.

 

Some restrictions stay in place, including:

• All retail stores subject to 50 percent occupancy rules
• Activities at senior citizen centers are suspended
• Restricted visitation at hospitals and nursing homes
• Non-work gatherings still require people to maintain a 6-foot distance between each other
• Restaurants and bars are open but with limited capacity.
• Athletic facilities are open.
• Close-contact service providers, such as salons and barber shops, are open.
