Betty Beaty Fain, age 86, of Troy, Alabama, passed away Thursday, June 18, 2020. A graveside service will be held Saturday, June 20, 2020, at 3 p.m. in the Louisville City Cemetery with Reverends Rick Hayes and Bill Hovey officiating and Green Hills Funeral Home directing. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronald Helms, Glenn Phillips, Ryan Phillips, Tyler Phillips, and Mike Hovey. Mrs. Fain is survived by her daughters, Carol Phillips (Glenn) and Cathy Fain; grandchildren, Ryan Phillips (Leigh), Tyler Phillips (Kelsi), and Megan Phillips; great-granddaughter, Hollis Phillips; sister, Jolene Clark; and numerous nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Col. Earl H. Fain, Jr.; parents, Lamar Fred and Julia Munn Beaty; and sister, Erma B. Helms. Mrs. Fain and the Colonel spent 35 years traveling the world, an adventure that was territory of her husband’s Air Force profession. Some of her favorite homesteads along the way were Pinedale, Wyoming; Karamursel, Turkey; and Rome, New York. Each destination came with excitement, exploration, and cats. Throughout her life she carried a great affection for numerous cats, moving them cross-country and welcoming any that found their way to her reachable, or feedable, vicinity. Upon her husband’s retirement, they made their way to Troy, where they settled-in to a more stationary adventure of enjoying life together locally. Mrs. Fain was a skilled gardener, growing a healthy bounty of flowers, which sometimes proved to be a wonderful treat to the wildlife she loved to feed. She was an avid fiction reader and enjoyed an eclectic collection of books and magazines. The family wishes to extend special thanks to Sharon Davis for her assistance for more than 20 years. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in her honor to the Louisville Cemetery Association (PO Box 4 Louisville, AL 36048).
